Our native land is the wine-growing region of Rheinhessen, and our home is Nierstein. Welcome to the most beautiful of all wine towns to be found along the Rhine!

It seems as if there are as many wineries around as there are grains of sand on a beach. It used to be the case that making a good wine was enough to stand out from the crowd. That’s far from the case today. Fortunately for the consumer – but not making things any easier for us from a business standpoint – there’s no shortage of wineries here in Rheinhessen making some darn good wines. For us, this means that simply offering our high-quality wines is no longer enough.

Many of our colleagues have built a tavern or wine bars in order to expand their range of offerings and create an additional income stream. We also chose this path, and in 2019, we were lucky enough to have celebrated the 25th anniversary of our wine tavern. But the competition is fierce in this area as well.

Other vintners have chosen to build guest houses. With its thousands of visitors every year, Nierstein is a great place to run such an establishment. We get to show off the beauty of the Rheinhessen region and the wonderful taste of our wines. Although we already had our wine tavern, we were pleased to be able to offer overnight accommodation to our guests as well. In 2019, our three double rooms and holiday flat were awarded three and four stars by the German Tourist Association.

WHAT IS IT THAT SETS US APART?

We’re more than just a young, dynamic winery offering top wines. We invite people to into our home:
for wine tastings, hiking through the vineyards and touring the vineyards in a tractor-pulled wagon (the winery).

1. to enjoy a glass or two of wine alongside tasty treats while enjoying a panoramic view of the Roter Hang;
2. to celebrate those special moments of one’s life (birthdays, anniversaries, weddings) in our tavern;
3. to sit back and enjoy a relaxing and experience-rich getaway in our guesthouse in the Riesling City

WHY DO WE PLACE SO MUCH EMPHASIS ON THE IDEA OF “EXPERIENCE”?

As we’ve made clear already, there are many good vintners, and plenty of good wines too. So you open a bottle of wine, drink a glass, and feel happy about the choice you made. The next time you choose another wine from a different winery. Everyone’s used to treating him or herself to a delicious wine – in fact we do the same ourselves, time and time again –but at some point, the experience tends to get a little repetitive.

But how amazing would it be to spend some time at the winemaker’s house and make beautiful memories there, return home, and then, with every bottle of Heise wine opened, think back upon that lovely day that etched itself into your memory. Visitors to the Roter Hang are sure to remember the view over the Rhine from on high, looking over the vineyards and beyond into the far hills of Hesse. Those who’ve experienced this special place in the company of their friends and family will surely long to return soon. Groups too can enjoy experiences here, with each individual doing his or her own thing, at the same time creating a collective memory.

HEISE’S WINE TASTING

We’ll start our wine tasting with a glass of HeisSecco. Then, all together, we will taste five wines from our wide range, accompanied by a baguette and mineral water. We will be happy to speak with you at length about the work we carry out in the vineyard and the winemaking process in the cellar. If you’re curious, you are also more than welcome to take a look into our sanctum sanctorum – our vaulted cellar, which is over 100 years of age.

How would you like to stay for a bite following your wine tasting experience? Then why not combine both, with a wine tasting followed by a “Rheinhessenvesper!” We would be happy to put together a small but delectable assortment of the small dishes typical to Rheinhessen, chosen from our menu. Homemade sausage, the spreadable cheese known as Spundekäs, or the sour milk cheese called “Handkäs –” we’ve got something for all tastes.

b) The magic of the hills

On this wine-themed hike, we climb a “Hiwwel,” the Rheinhessen term for a small hill, to one of Nierstein’s vineyards, set off beautifully by a tower and tiny house. From here we can take in the magnificent views of a landscape shaped by man’s hard work throughout the ages.

SERIOUS HIKER? OR IS A LEISURELY WALK MORE YOUR PACE?

We would be pleased to guide you along a number of different routes within the boundaries of the town of Nierstein and through the Roter Hang vineyards. Depending on the length of the tour you choose, we will sample different Heise wines at selected spots and enjoy snacks from our wine tavern!

TRACTOR TOURS THROUGH THE VINEYARDS

Perhaps you’re a group made up of several people? In that case, a very special tour of the vineyards of the Roter Hang would be an excellent idea! We would be pleased to show you the vineyards of Nierstein, and speak with you on the spot about how the grapes grow in the vineyards, the work which is carried out there, and how the sweet juice of the grapes is transformed into one of our fine wines. As you ride through the vineyards in a wagon pulled by a tractor, you can sample five different wines, along with grape juice and water. And to ensure no one passes out from hunger, our wine is served along with “Weck and Worscht,” local dialect for a roll and sausage. Vegetarians could choose to snack on cheese cubes instead.

CITY TOURS OF NIERSTEIN

In her role as a Wine and Culture Ambassador, our young boss would be pleased to guide you through the beautiful city of Nierstein. From the ancient “Glöck” vineyards with the picturesque St. Kilian’s Church, to the Dalberg-Herding Castle and other gems of Nierstein history and culture, there’s no shortage of sights to see here! And when the tour comes to an end, it’s capped off by a glass of wine in our tavern— naturally!

VINTNER FOR A YEAR

The project titled “Vintner for a Year,” led by Culture and Wine Ambassadors, entered its fourth year in 2020. Everyone is welcome to take part. Over the course of four Saturdays in the year, you’ll see first-hand how wine comes about. The vintner accompanies you through the vineyards to show you the nature of his work. This unique project allows you to experience Rheinhessen at a whole new level. Over the course of four modules – one for each season – interested parties can experience what it’s like to work in the vineyard and make wine. Alongside the work, the program includes ample room for fun as well. Ask about the possibilities for participating in the program in 2021.

Children adopt and look after their very own vines

In one of the vineyards close to town, children tend to the vines while working under the guidance of one of the Culture and Wine Ambassadors over the course of the year. The young ones get a feel for the work that needs to be done and see with their own eyes how the grapes develop. Step by step, children can experience the process of planting, pruning, looking after the soil, trimming off the leaves and other steps in grape cultivation, as well as the harvest and grape-pressing process.

In this way, children foster a personal relationship with their vines.
